Christmas 2019

Christmas and Carol Services in the Parish

Christingle Service - Sunday 8th December 4:30pm

The Advent season begins with our traditional Christingle service at 4:30pm in St Lawrence Church.  This is a very popular all-age service with carols and the gift of a Christingle.

Each year we make a collection for the work of the Children's Society, who we have been supporting for many years.

St Lawrence Club Carol Service - Tuesday 17th December at 2:00pm

The St Lawrence Club is social group for the elderly who are often housebound, and who may not have much contact with other people from one day to the next.  The club exists to provide a twice-monthly gathering with activities and trips out.

At Christmas time the St Lawrence Club holds it carol service, with a super tea party afterwards.  It's always packed, and very popular.

You can find out more about the St Lawrence club here.

Coxhill Manor Carol Service - Tuesday 17th December at 6.30pm

At Coxhill Manor Nursing Home there will be a carol service with the residents and their families, and for anyone who wishes to join in.  Please come to Coxill for 7:00pm.  All those who have been before are able to tell us how much the residents enjoy the carols, and how we share a lovely welcome and hospitiality together.

Here is a handy map:

Nine Lessons and Carols - Sunday 15th December at 6:00pm

The Nine Lessons and Carols is our traditional candlelit service of readings and carols, which tells the story of how God has sent his Son into the world. From the beginning of the Bible in Genesis, all the way through to the Gospels, God has been working his plan for us to meet with Jesus Christ at Christmas time. You can watch the whole story here:

Christmas Eve Crib Services

The Crib Services are a big event at St Lawrence, with hundreds coming along to raise the Christmas spirit.

There are two services depending upon age.The 3:30pm Crib Service is for those with younger children, and the 5:00pm for those with older, and all the adults too!

Don't be late if you want a good seat!

Christmas Eve - 11.30pm

Once again, all the old tradtions are still alive and well at St Lawrence.  For many, the 'Midnight Mass' is the opener for Christmas, and for those who are unable to come to church on Christmas Day morning it marks for them their Christmas jouney of faith.  For those who don't normally take the Holy Communion, come along anyway and receive a blessing.

With carols and candles, it's a reminder that Jesus Christ is the light that shines in the darkness.

Christmas Day

And finally......the twelve days of Christmas begin.  There a three services in the morning:

Holy Communion at 8:00am at St Lawrence
Holy Communion at 9:00am St Saviours, Valley End
Family Communion at 10:30am at St Lawrence
